Common issues and how to solve them.

Images Not Loading#

RAW files show as blank or broken#

  • Check format support: See File Formats for supported RAW types. If your camera is very new, a FLOGVIT.photosuite update may be needed.
  • Corrupted file: Try opening the same file in another application. If it fails there too, the file itself may be damaged.
  • Permissions: On macOS, ensure FLOGVIT.photosuite has access to the folder (System Settings → Privacy & Security → Files and Folders).

Thumbnails load slowly#

  • Storage type: Files on HDD or network drives load slower than SSD. Consider copying to a local SSD for culling.
  • Cache: First load is always slower. Subsequent visits to the same folder use the disk cache. Check that it is on, and raise its size, in Settings → Performance → Disk cache.
  • Large folder: Folders with 10,000+ images take longer on the first visit. The info bar shows how far loading has come.

Performance Issues#

App feels sluggish or stuttery#

  • GPU drivers: On Windows, update to the latest GPU drivers; FLOGVIT.photosuite needs DirectX 12 or Vulkan 1.2 there, and Metal on a Mac.
  • Memory: Check Cache size (images) in Settings → Performance. If your system has 16+ GB RAM, increase it.
  • Background processes: Heavy background tasks (antivirus scans, backups, video encoding) compete for disk I/O.

High memory usage#

The memory cache holds decoded images for fast navigation. This is expected behavior. Reduce Cache size (images) and the prefetch in Settings → Performance if needed. Memory is released when switching folders.

Metadata Issues#

Ratings/labels don't appear in Lightroom#

  • XMP sidecar files must be in the same folder as the image files
  • In Lightroom: select the images, right-click → Metadata → Read Metadata from File. Lightroom reads a sidecar only when told to, or when it imports the picture.

IPTC fields show garbled text#

This usually means an encoding mismatch: text written as Latin-1 and read as UTF-8, or the other way round. Use Metadata → Fix Encoding… to convert the affected files in one go.

GPS coordinates not showing#

  • Check that the image actually has GPS data embedded (not all cameras include it)
  • For images without GPS, use a GPS tracklog. See Metadata & IPTC → GPS Tracklog

Upload Issues#

FTP upload fails or times out#

  • Verify the connection in Settings → Connections
  • Check that the folder on the connection exists on the server (the UPLOADS section of the folder tree)
  • Try switching protocol: if FTP fails, try FTPS or SFTP
  • Firewalls may block FTP passive mode — SFTP (port 22) is usually more reliable

Upload stuck at "Uploading"#

  • Check your network connection
  • Large files (50+ MB RAW) take time on slow connections
  • The UPLOADS section of the folder tree shows each file's state; a failure that will not pass by itself (a wrong password, a missing folder) is parked and sent again when the connection is saved, or after an hour

Display Issues#

Colors look wrong#

  • Check Settings → Color: color management on, and the right display profile (the monitor's own, or your calibration file)
  • Color manage thumbnails makes the grid match the large picture
  • Verify your monitor is calibrated

UI text is too small or too large#

Adjust Font scale in Settings → Appearance (80%–150%).

Import Issues#

Memory card not detected#

  • Ensure the card is properly inserted and mounted by the OS
  • Check that the card shows up in Finder first; the import dialog lists a card once the system has mounted it
  • If it still is not listed, choose Choose folder... in the import dialog and pick the card's folder

Import is slow#

  • Check both source and destination drives. Importing from SD card to HDD is slower than to SSD.
  • Verification reads every copy back. xxHash (the default) is the fast one; SHA-256 costs more time.
  • A backup copy writes everything twice

License Issues#

"License expired" but I have an active subscription#

The app asks the license server for your licence's date when it starts. Offline, it keeps the date it had, so a renewed beta or FLOGVIT.plus reaches the app the next time it starts with a network connection. Restart it while online.

Can't activate on a new machine#

Each license has a maximum number of active machines. Deactivate an old machine first with Deactivate License in Settings → License on that machine, or from the account dashboard on the website.

Resetting the Application#

If all else fails, you can reset FLOGVIT.photosuite to its default state:

  1. Quit the application
  2. Move the configuration folder somewhere else (rather than deleting it, so you can go back):
    • ~/Library/Application Support/flogvit/
  3. Restart the application

This resets all settings, keyboard shortcuts, connections and favorites — and the library, with its albums, saved searches and shoots, which live in the same folder. Your images and XMP sidecar files are never affected. To reset only the library, restore one of its backups instead.

Getting Help#

If your issue isn't covered here:

  • Check for updates — many issues are fixed in newer versions; the info bar says when a newer one is out
  • Tell us with Help → Send Feedback…, which can take the app's log and a screenshot along. See Feedback
